The 300-key InterContinental Hotel Jiaxing, which rises to 22 floors, is the cornerstone and primary vertical landmark for a new mixed use district in Zhejiang Province. A five star prototype for a new line of properties, this hotel is positioned at the intersection of a major open space corridor and a key regional arterial, a location that led to a solution which engages the open space while shielding the arterial.

The hotel plan is organized as a series of traditional Chinese garden walls extending outside the building to the adjacent gardens purposefully blurring the line between interior and exterior space. These walls variously conceal and reveal a series of tranquil inner courtyards planted with bamboo trees. As a result way finding is gently intuitive and the guest experience is peaceful and serene from drop-off and arrival through check-out.

The room tower is skinned with a crisply detailed glass and stone exterior wall that is both playfully transparent and elegantly refined. The orthogonal geometric pattern within the external façade was conceived as a reference to similar patterns that might be seen in a traditional Chinese screen. The use of additional mullion overlays and glass accents creates a more dynamic pattern within the façade in very much the same manner as accents were used by the early Chinese craftsmen to help make their screens more visually interesting.

With its conference facilities, ballroom spaces and its understated pre-function lobbies the building is both a destination for visitors and a perfect venue for important social events. Guests and visitors alike have access to a full service conference center, a luxury spa, a pool and a fitness center as well as upscale restaurants and lounges throughout the grounds.
